Boom Goes The Stigma
Welcome to Boom Goes The Stigma! BGTS is a production of the Construction Suicide Prevention Partnership (CSPP). According to the CDC, the construction industry has the second-highest rate of suicide and has one of the highest rates of death from overdoses. Our country loses more construction workers to suicide than to Jobsite injuries or accidents. BGTS is a tool that normalizes and elevates the conversation around mental health. On every episode, guests from within and outside the construction industry discuss critical issues, share stories, and, most importantly, blow up the stigma of talking about mental wellness as a sign of weakness.

Oregon's Opioid Crisis: Correlation v Causation
Here is our season one finale episode of Boom Goes the Stigma! We are excited to share our conversation with Dr. John W. McIlvee. Dr. Mcllvee serves as the State Opioid Treatment Authority (SOTA) for the State of Oregon and is the manager of the Healthcare Professionals Service Program (HPSP). He is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, has several years of direct clinical experience in treating patients with alcohol and drug disorders, and was the former Director of Assessment and Education and Associate Director of Research at a large substance abuse treatment facility.
Dr. Mcllvee talked about the current state, cause, and impact of Oregon’s opioid crisis. He provided perspectives= on prevention, interdiction, treatment, and recovery. In addition, he discussed the power empathy has in supporting employees in treatment for or recovering from an opioid misuse disorder.
We appreciate Dr. Mclvee taking the time to talk with us!
